New York

Las Vegas and the Valley of Fire

Los Angeles

Tokyo

Relative Realities

These are photos from a vacation I took in 2008. Yes, I know, I'm a terrible human being for not throwing them through lighroom before tonight. I thought I had... I just remembered I still needed to burn them to a CD for my dad and then saw they were just sitting there, forgotten.

It's pretty cool going through these all together. Seeing pictures of the Stutue of Liberty in Tokyo, and of the Arc de Triomphe and Eiffel Tower in Vegas... It reminds me of how little in the world is real. And of how relative "reality" is. So I present to you here, not the four cities, but a reflection of my personal realities of these cities.

It's probably also pretty interesting, but mostly silly perhaps, that I edited some of the NY photos to be black/white with lots of clarity and contrast thrown in there for dramatical effect.

Because there are many photos, I will be making a seperate entry for each city.

Ceremonies and Celebrations: Bachelor of Arts

It is official. I actually know somwthing about Anthropology. The University says so. They gave me a Bachelors degree. I'm still not really sure why, it's not like I've ever really said anything substantial about the workings of the universe, but I suppose I atleast know more than the average Joe in the general Anthropological field. Hooray.

Unfortunately, this doesn't mark much of an end to anything, because I started the MA program a month ago, and am still very much enmeshed in the student life and way of things (which mostly means I drink a lot of coffee, get very little sleep and may one day actually know something about Anthropology). This title will be going on the wall Next to my Jakarta International School diploma and my Bilingual International Baccalaureate Diploma. Now I feel like a smart person. Soon, I will appropriately feel like a smart person when I recieve my MA in Cultural Anthropology of Media and Material Culture and Ethnographic Film. Yey.

Congratualations to everyone else who receieved their diploma aswel!

October: Pink Ribbons

So, October is just around the corner, which means it's almost Breast Cancer Awareness time again. Last year, I  worked on a Pink Ribbon Photography project that was exposed in Amsterdam for 2 weeks in association with Cinnamon Wednesdays, an art promotion initiative co-founded by Shishani Vranckx.

This year, I want to expand the series. All photographs (last years or new) will be on sale again starting in October for E25,-. All profits will go to Breast Cancer. Hopefully, I will also be exposing again this year, but I do not know if this is achieveable.

So, I am looking for models who are willing to pose (amost) nude for Breast Cancer Awareness. I do want to focus more on the breasts than I was able to last year, so please carefully consider your participation. Anyone interested can contact me at evi.marian@gmail.com or through Facebook. Below are a few of the photographs from last years series.
